4th italo calvino sharing - the black sheep
This week we introduce another type of writing styles by Italo Calvino - Fable (raccontini, little stories), with the selected piece [the black sheep].

The story start with a country, where all the villagers are thieves.
They steal things from neighbor's house everyday. Their own belongings likewise, stolen everyday.
Hence, nobody lost out. Everyone live happily together.
until one day, an honest man move to this country. He didn't follow others theft routine.
He let others steal his thing without stealing anything from anyone. Means there's always someone found their house untouched, and include the things they steal, they became richer than others.
Conversely there's always someone who got nothing, but their belonging still stole by others, hence they became poorer.
So on and so on, the rich hire the poor to steal thing for them. When the rich started to afraid the lost of their belonging, police force & prison were set up. Rob & being robbed no longer exist in this country anymore.
The society started to re-structure in pyramid, where this is also the basic theory of capitalism.
I illustrated the story for my own understanding, when i tried to remove or add on the grey box (represent one's belonging), I started to wonder how the changes happen. What if the honest man refuse to join the game, while other people remain theirs. Why one's uncooperative can't make the stop but make the change ?
In the story, the honest man was forced to follow the rules. When his nature unable to adapt himself to the society, he died of hunger in the end of story. This reflects our reality of bullying, for example the hottest news in Taiwan in recent days, regarding the little girl beheaded in a random knife kill. Some people would think is because of social exclusion since childhood, that turn this harmless balcksheep into bloody killer. Some people blame his parents for the tragedy, which this kind of negative public option turn them into black sheep relatively.
Sometimes, i see there's no fine line between bullying & free speech.
Words are powerful weapon that can either edify or destroy you. But how we realize when words are harsh ? We used to be black sheep, or white sheep, or victimize others due to the fear of being black sheep.
No matter how we condemn the acts of white sheep, or even though we knew criticism hurt sometimes, we still hardly to tear ourselves apart from commenting on any issues. (ain't say that you could bluster)
It is better that everyone don't position yourself as a black sheep, this probably will be the best ending i could imagine.
A man becomes a celebrity after a genetic splicing accident leaves him as a half man, half fish.
His father and close friends, some people took advantage from him by distributing his news, some hided him away from media scrutiny, and some suggested him to try different treatment options.
Media representatives get as much information as possible, and then reshape the news with the only selected highlighted keywords.
The vast majority people like us, always choose to feed by media with stories. Regarding with this issue, everyone will have their own opinion.
What I like the most about this movie is that it didn't deliberately portray the unfortunate man ( the so-called black sheep in this movie). At the end of the story, he rejected doctor's kindness to turn him back into human form, he rather be a fish, live forever under the sea. The chaos over the world were non of his business, he is happy enough to turn off from everything, that no longer being the victim of the tragedy.
We used to read this story from "the black sheep is the victim" perspective, but what if he isn't ?
All villagers' life will go on as usual, without the existence of the honest man and his noncompliance.
Regardless the changes is good or bad, but at least it is a change. Reform movement always comes from different thinking and sacrifices.
We are born to be different from one another, but are we afraid of being different or dare of being different ?
I think Italo Calvino had played a little trick in this story, it was titled "the black sheep", where we used to describe odd people in a bad way. But a man with great honesty was the black sheep in contrast. He inadvertently deliver a message of " there is no absolute virtue or vice, they might subject to social status", or it is just a satire.
